The NHS is offering free vape starter kits to one million smokers to get the nation smoke-free by 2030.
One million smokers will be encouraged to switch cigarettes for vapes under a "swap to stop" scheme, with starter vape kits offered to almost one in five smokers in England. This is part of a push to make England "smoke free".
Pregnant women will be offered up to £400 to quit smoking and a consultation will be launched to introduce mandatory advice in cigarette packs.
Campaigners welcomed the measures as steps in the right direction, but said they were not enough.
Experts expect the £45 million pledge to get the nation "smoke free" by 2030 to be missed without further action.
Health minister Neil O'Brien is launching new schemes to reduce the number of life-long smokers who die from smoking.
Cigarettes are the only product on sale that can kill if used, leading to two out of three life-long smokers dying from smoking.
''We will fund a national 'swap to stop' scheme to help a million smokers quit and provide a free vaping starter kit, the first of its kind in the world.''
Vapes and vouchers for pregnant smokers are welcome steps, but they are not enough to help smokers quit, according to Deborah Arnott, chief executive of the Action on Smoking and Health campaign.
The latest announcement follows plans to crack down on the illegal sale of e-cigarettes to minors under the age of 18.

I began smoking when I was 11 years old. I’m now 53 and in week six of not smoking and only vaping. It wasn’t the prospect of cancer that compelled me to quit, but the prospect of becoming like my lifelong smoker mother, who can’t walk more than a few feet because her lungs are so damaged. I have too many physical activities that I enjoy to become too out of breath to participate in them. I only hope it’s not too late, and I’m bitterly disappointed that I didn’t stop a year ago.
